A wheelchair restraint secures chairs and their occupants inside vehicles. Although for some wheelchair users it is possible to transfer to a normal seat and utilise a normal seatbelt, with the chair stored safely in the back of the vehicle, for many others this is not an option. Customised seating, where the chair is secured to fixed anchor points (usually four) inside the vehicle, is necessary for such individuals. A passenger harness and postural supports, as required, keep the occupant safe and comfortable.

Other options available include an electric retractable restraint and a restraint with automatic locking. Some can be operated by the wheelchair user whereas other types of restraint require the assistance of a helper.
